"Walking is boring!" Something your child would say? Don't worry, because the Salland forests offer plenty to do. For example at the Lemelerberg, situated at approximately 5 km from Hof van Salland Hellendoorn. On the Lemelerberg, you can follow a true Trail of the Lion, including the challenging play area In the Lion's Den as a cool finale.

About the route
The Trail of the Lion is an approximately 4 km/100 minute walk along heathlands and through the forest at the Lemelerberg. Sounds a bit long? There's also the option of going the shortened route of approximately 2.5 km/60 minutes. The routes are clearly marked by means of easily followed signs at the junction.

Finding the starting point can be a bit of a challenge. Take the stairs up next to the tea house. There, you'll find the lion standing proudly on its pedestal, surveying its kingdom. It truly is extensive, the view impressive.

Next, follow the orange dots and arrows on the marker posts and you'll be sure to find the way. At several points along the way, signs have been placed. These signs contain fun and educational information about animals in the area. The route will take you through magnificent nature areas offering plenty to do and see. Thanks to the posts and signs, finding and following the right trail is great fun for children as well.

Play!
Next to the parking lot you'll find the natural playground In the Lion's Den. Full of challenges in the form of play equipment made of wood, perfectly matching the area. Climb trees to mount the throne, complete the course to conquer the hut and build hiding places using the loose branches you'll find. Parents will have enough time for a little nap in the wooden hammocks.

Opt for a place inside or outside on the terrace of the tea house found on the Lemelerberg. The menu offers a variety of basic meals and a wide range of delicious drinks. Tip: look up the opening hours at their website beforehand. And then you can sit back and enjoy the afterglow of a beautiful route and a great, challenging play adventure.
